12 minute wheelchair VO2max test

Introduction

This test allows you to easily determine your VO2 max with the 12 minute Wheelchair VO2max Test.

What is the point?

While there are many fitness tests for able bodied athletes, there are few for wheelchair athletes. However, you can determine your VO2 max with the 12 minute Wheelchair VO2max Test.

What do you need?

  • 400 metre track - marked every 100 metres
     
  • Stopwatch
     
  • Assistant
     
How do you do the test?

  • The athlete should cover as far as possible in twelve minutes
     
  • Measure to the nearest 100 metres
     


What results you'll get :

By repeating the test at regular intervals you can measure your fitness and assess your training program.

Metres VO2 max Assessment
>2560 >36.20 Excellent
2171 - 2560 28.96 - 36.20 Above Average
1381 - 2170 14.44 - 28.94 Average
1010 - 1380 7.70 - 14.42 Below Average
<1010 <7.70 Poor

What is being measured again?

This is an excellent test of aerobic fitness for wheelchair athletes.
