Front of house jobs are ideal for someone with great interpersonal skills and an infectious personality. If you enjoy meeting and greeting the public and enjoy providing a positive experience for those around you, the decision for front of house jobs at a salon or spa might be right for you. Should you decide to get a front of house job at a salon or spa, you would be the first point of contact for clients coming into the establishment, and would be required to see to their needs and field questions and complaints. You may also be required to field telephone calls, take bookings, coordinate practitioner schedules and liaise between the clients and the beauty therapists. If this sounds like something you'd like to throw yourself into, you might wonder if you have the qualifications you need to get a front of house job at a salon or spa. Read on for a few training pointers!

The good news is that there's no minimum educational requirements for this post. Having said this, most employers will want you to have completed a GCSE (A-C)/S grades 1-3. Some secretarial or administrative skills are also a bonus, and you can get these through on the job experience in a similar role in another industry, or through college courses or private schools. If you choose to get further qualifications that might make you more employable, you might want to consider taking NVQ/SVQ Levels 1-4 in Business Administration and Customer Service training Levels 2 and 3. Knowledge of the Health and Leisure Sector, Beauty and Holistic Therapies are also very valuable assets. Many people who take on this post have previously been employed in another capacity in the industry. You may wish to work your way up to this post by first taking a lower level job in the establishment. Sometimes this post is taken by someone who is already certified as a health therapist, because this knowledge and expertise will allow you to best advise the public as to which treatments are best suited to their needs.

Whether you choose to work your way up through the industry, gain skills in a similar job in another industry, or take courses that will leave you with recognizable qualifications, only you can know the best route for you. And once you've discovered that route you could be well on your way to a new and exciting career
