Testing for swimming fitness can involve a range of different tests. Cardio fitness for swimming can be measured using either maximal or sub-maximal tests, both of which have advantages and disadvantages.
Other key elements in swimming include body composition, speed and power, and anaerobic endurance. The latter is particularly important as almost all races involve a strong anaerobic element.
