Recumbent bikes

Established as a feature of many gyms recumbent bikes (or recumbant bikes if you spell an other way) offer a great alternative to the traditional exercise bikes, in that you can sit back and read whilst your working out.

Recumbant exercise bikes really are popular with older people or those with back problems, because they are comfortable and non-impact. When you sit on an upright machine, you have weight and gravity on your side. On a recumbant bike, you have to work more to turn the pedals.

With the pedals on a recumbent bike in front of you rather than below, you'll find that you work your glutes and thighs differently than on an upright, adding to the benefits of your cycling workout.
