Stemming from the science of homing in on the main and collateral meridians of the human body.

Shiatsu is a finger-pressure technique utilising traditional acupuncture points. Similar to acupressure, Shiatsu concentrates on unblocking the flow of life energy and restoring balance in the meridians and organs in order to promote self-healing. The whole philosophy that underlies this treatment is based on your Chi (pronounced Ki) whereby all energy in the human body flows through a series of channels called meridians. When you Chi is stopped, you start to show symptoms of some kind.

The treatment is based on stimulating blood and lymphatic flow. Practitioners apply pressure using their finger, thumb, palm, elbow, or knee. Thsi is directed at specific zones on the skin that marry with energy meridians. The treatment brings about a sense of relaxation while stimulating blood and lymphatic flow. Benefits of the treatment include pain relief and a strengthening of the body's resistance to disease and disorder.

Before any treatment, your state of health is assessed alongside your symptoms, your constitution and general energy levels. Practitioners use a variety of techniques to improve your energy flow and as the quality of your Chi changes, the symptoms associated with a lack of flow will gradually improve. This is a holistic therapy that works on the individual as a complete being, not just the physical body but also on an emotional or mental level.
