McCloy physical fitness test

With its various components, the McCloy Physical Fitness Test is an excellent measure of all around strength.

What is the point?

One of the key components of overall fitness is strength - it enables athletes to move quickly, under control, and exert maximal power when needed.

The McCloy Physical Fitness Test combines a variety of tests to provide a more complete strength assessment.

What do you need?

  • Gym with mats
  • Pull up bar
  • Stop watch
  • Assistant
How do you do the test?

There are five parts to this test. Allow a 3 minute recovery between each one.

  • Pull Ups - to maximum
  • Press Ups - to maximum
  • Squat Thrusts for 1 minute
  • Squat Jumps for 1 minute
  • Sit Ups for 2 minutes
  • Record the number of reps completed for each exercise.

What results you'll get :

Results should be taken at regular intervals (say every month) then compared with previous results. You can combine the individual results into the Physical Fitness Index (P.F.I.) by adding together the repetitions completed for each exercise and then dividing the total by five.

What is being measured again?

This is a good way to monitor the development of overall strength.
