To really get the best from your workouts, it helps to know how to calculate target heart rate - especially with your age and level of intensity that you intend to train.

Knowing this enables you to customise your workouts to fit your goals - weight loss, aerobic fitness, etc. Many people are surprised to find out that they are actually working out too hard!

For basic endurance and improved aerobic capacity you want to work out at no more than 60 - 70% of your maximum - it is in this zone that you will burn the most fat. Training harder, at 70% to 80% THR will help you become fitter and stronger, but will not burn any more fat.
