Target heart rate

If you are to get the best from your workouts, it helps to know your target heart rate.

Knowing your target heart rate allows you to customise your workouts to fit your goals - weight loss, greater fitness, etc. Many people are surprised to find out that they are actually working out too hard!

For basic endurance and improved aerobic capacity you want to work out at no more than 60 - 70% of your maximum - it is in this zone that you will burn the most fat.

Training harder, at 70% to 80%, will help you become fitter and stronger, but will not burn any more fat.
