Results :

Results from our waist to hip ratio calculator above will indicate your body shape, with the results having slightly differing meanings for men and women.

For men, if you result is less than 1 and for women if your result is less than 0.85, this signifies a healthy body shape.

If you see results above 1 and 0.85 you are an "apple" shape (you carry more weight around your waist than round your hips).

If you are "pear" shaped you carry excess weight around your hips and lower body. You are also less likely to suffer from heart disease and cardiovascular problems due to less stress on the heart.

Summary:

The apple or pear body shape is easy to describe - women typically collect fat in their hips and buttocks, and thus have the "pear" body shape. Men more often collect weight around their bellies, and are thus "apples".

This is important to clarify, because "apples", those with fat concentrated around the abdomen, are more likely to develop many of the health problems related to obesity.
