Thai massage courses

Studying Thai massage courses is a great way to learn this traditional technique. When you study Thai massage courses you learn a unique form of body therapy that incorporates elements from a variety of sources.

In use for thousands of years, this method includes elements from yoga, acupressure and reflexology and combines them with its own techniques of gentle rocking, deep stretching and compression.

Studying Thai massage courses you'll learn how this combination of techniques can realign your musculoskeletal system - it is popular with athletes, dancers, indeed anyone who wants their body to perform better.

As with other similar therapeutic systems (e.g. acupuncture) it works on the principle of energy flow. In this case the energy channels that flow through our body are referred to as Sen lines, and the therapy works on these lines in order to balance the flow of energy in the body.

You can find introductory course if you are interesting in learning simply for you own benefit, but if you want to perform professionally on others you will need to get a practitioner's certificate.

This will include compulsory elements in anatomy and physiology, as well as practical, hands on work. This is a very active method, in which the therapist uses not just their hands, but their fingers, thumbs, palms, elbows, knees and feet, so you will need instruction in all the different techniques.

Before starting a course be sure that the provider has a good reputation and offers courses with recognised qualifications. Organisations such as the FHT (Federation of Holistic Therapists) provide recognition for training of this kind.
