The lesson here is clear - if you want to build muscle and/or burn fat, cut some carbs. The best ones to ditch? Processed simple carbs like:

  • Sugary foods (sodas, candy bars, cakes, cookies etc)
  • White bread
  • White rice
  • Potatoes
  • Sugary cereals
Instead, base your diet around the following:
  • Quality Carbs - fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grain foods
  • Lean protein sources - Meat, poultry, chicken, low-fat dairy, eggs, and nuts
  • Protein shakes - these are easy and convenient for many people
Using this higher protein diet, along with regular exercise, you can actually achieve what many people consider to be almost impossible - adding muscle while simultaneously losing fat.
