Buying a used elliptical machine is an excellent option for home use. Buying a used elliptical machine may enable you to get a top of the line model at a significantly reduced price.
When buying any second hand equipment it's worth understanding the different levels of used elliptical machines on offer.
Lowest in terms of quality are models bought from an individual. These will have had no upgrade or replacement work done on them, and will not offer a warranty. Obviously this makes them a risky proposition, so before parting with any cash be sure that the equipment is in good condition and the price is right. If you do your research first, this is the best way to pick up a real bargain, but it is also the most likely way to end up with defective equipment.
Refurbished. Models less than 2 years old are typically refurbished. This involves cleaning them up and replacing any broken components. The equipment may therefore look a bit used depending on its original condition.
A remanufactured model will be a bit older, but it will have been disassembled, any worn or broken parts replaced, then the metal work will be sandblasted and repainted.
Both refurnished and remanufactured equipment will have a limited warranty and offer the opportunity to buy a used model that is as good as a new one, but that sells for much less.
Whichever option you decide upon it is essential that you test out any equipment, varying the speed and incline, and keeping it running for a while to give time for any potential problems to show up.
