Body care

If you care about your skin, then investigating body care will make you realise that it encompasses a whole range of issues that you may not even consider at the outset.

At its simplest, body care is about having a system or lifestyle in place that puts a premium on overall good health. The components of total body care would include regular exercise, a good diet with lots of fresh food, and a beauty regime that pampers you from top to toe.

One part of looking after your body that men often ignore is your skin. Sure, they might look after their face, but from the neck downwards gets forgotten. Good body care includes looking after and pampering all your skin, that's where body wraps come into play - but more of that later.

So what are the key issues? Dryness can be a problem in areas that get a lot of wear and tear, such as the hands, feet, elbows, and knees, although large surface areas can also become dry, especially during cooler months.

Our modern obsession with cleanliness contributes to this, with most of us taking long hot showers on a daily basis, and using harsh soaps that strip the skin of all its natural oils. The impact of the sun is also seen in areas other than the face - the neck and upper chest, shoulders and upper back, arms and hands are all susceptible, leading to an increase in lines and wrinkles. Finally, there is the dreaded cellulite. Cellulite can occur in many areas, but is most common on the thighs and butt. So what can you do?

Exfoliation is a key part of total skin maintenance. Scrubs give a softer and smoother feel to skin, and also penetrate the upper layers of dead skin cells, assisting the penetration of moisturizers and any helpful ingredients they may contain.

Moisturizing is also crucial. Cellulite can be improved by both exfoliation and moisturization, and the use of certain products, such as alpha hydroxy acid, can stimulate collagen production in the upper layers of the skin. And in addition to the other benefits, skin that is soft and smooth is not only better looking and healthier, but will also give you an overall sense of confidence and well-being.
