Become a personal trainer

For many people, to become being a personal trainer sounds like a glamorous job. You spend your time doing something you love, usually with like-minded people, and maybe even get to work with celebrities. But how do you actually become a personal trainer?

First of all you need to decide if you have the right characteristics to be become a good personal trainer (bad ones rarely do well!). It is essential that you are outgoing & friendly, with good communication skills. You also need to be willing to learn new skills, and be organised. Finally, a bit of charisma wouldn't go amiss. If this sounds like you, then the next thing to consider is getting the right professional certification.

There are many certifying organizations, so choosing one can be difficult. Before you decide, you'll want to do some research - ask whether the certification is national or international certification? Is it universally recognized? Are there exams that require attending workshops or seminars? And of course, how much does it cost?
