Bikram yoga

Increasingly popular in the west, Bikram Yoga is a unique series of 26 traditional Hatha Yoga postures and 2 breathing exercises, all performed in a heated room.

The entire workout takes approximately 90 minutes, and will leave you with a feeling of vibrant good health and well being.

Founder Bikram Choudhury began studying yoga at the age of 4, and by 12 he was the youngest ever National Champion of India, winning the title three years in a row.

Working with his guru, he developed Bikram yoga, and soon became renowned as an expert teacher, opening schools throughout the East. After working for three years with Western doctors and scientists at Tokyo University Hospital, he perfected the comprehensive system of 26 poses now known as Bikram yoga.

The postures are designed to work each part of the body in a specific order, with each pose preparing the body for the next. The sequence is intended to maximise oxygenation and detoxification of the body. The heat facilitates stretching, helps to prevent injury and promotes sweating, an aid to detoxification.

When all of this is put together, the result is an intense class that improves both strength and flexibility, while creating harmony in the body. Devotees say this is an unsurpassed way of improving vitality and health, and engenders an incredible sense of well-being.

Classes are suitable for all levels (beginners to advanced, athletes to exercise virgins) and all ages.
