Respiratory

Can acupuncture heal respiratory complaints? This branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a long history of treating a whole variety of conditions, including respiratory complaints.

Acupuncture works by unblocking the flow of our universal life energy (Qi), which can become blocked. Acupuncture therapists believe that this Qi flows along a series of channels called meridians, which lie just beneath the skin.

By inserting the needles in key points along the meridians, the skilled practitioner can unblock the flow of Qi, and allow the body to begin healing itself naturally.

So what respiratory disorders can acupuncture treat? The range of complaints that have been successfully treated includes:

  • Asthma
  • Common cold
  • Coughs
  • Emphysema
  • Laryngitis
  • Rhinitus
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sinusitis

So how can this ancient form of treatment be so successful with such problems? The answer lies in what acupuncture actually does for us.

Unlike western medicine, which simply treats immediate symptoms, acupuncture, and other forms of TCM, treat the whole person.

While many of these issues present as shortness of breath, there is usually an underlying reason for this. Because acupuncture seeks to heal the whole person, it allows the body to function more effectively and thus the individual to breathe better. When allied with dietary changes, it can have a profound effect on a person's health.
